Educational Enrichment Center
|
BSEC's Enrichment Center, sponsored in part by the Ehrenreich-Abuhav Foundation and their trustees the Aeder Family, provides students with essential tools to help them improve their studies. Called an "enrichment" center rather than a learning center, the learning environment emphasizes progress as a set goal for the students who participate. In small groups of 3 or 4 students, and sometimes even in one-on-one sessions, the specialized teaching staff encourages and teaches the children how to succeed.
A significant portion of the students at the Enrichment Center have learning disabilities, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Many have developed large gaps in their studies including deficient reading and writing skills and underdeveloped math skills.
|
The Enrichment Center offers three tracks of learning:
Learning Strategies - In this track the student learns various methods that will help him succeed at his studies.
English Language Skills - In groups of 3 or 4, the English teacher works very closely with the students, emphasizing the importance of being comfortable with the English language.
Enrichment - In small groups, the enrichment teachers discuss subjects that are of interest to the students at a higher level.

In addition to the teachers, a coordinator interfaces with the students' families, arranges schedules for the students and teachers, and deals with problems that arise. Each month the teachers prepare progress reports on each child that are reviewed with the coordinator and with the general teacher.
