Academics
|
The academic program at the Bet Shemesh Educational Center meets and exceeds all National Ministry of Education requirements. Many of the students at the Center come from religious or traditional homes. As such, our curriculum includes a full program of both religious and secular studies. In addition to fulfilling spiritual needs, the daily prayers and busy schedule create the structure and routine sorely missing from the lives of these boys. Mr. Jay Bauer has been a very generous donor to Bet Shemesh and has endowed the religious studies of the boys, now named the Jay Bauer Judaic Studies Program.

The academic curriculum is designed to fill gaps in students' education and effectively prepare them for high school matriculation examinations. The program has proven extremely successful, with a very high percentage of our students passing matriculation exams. The morning hours are devoted to Bible, Jewish Law and Ethics, and Talmudic studies. During the afternoon hours, the students attend classes in Mathematics, Science, Literature, Computers, History, Social Studies and English.

Coming from very difficult family backgrounds, an integral role of the teaching staff at BSEC is to restore the students' sense of self esteem. At present, the ratio of students to teachers at the Center is 3:1. The teaching staff is committed to supporting the full academic and social potential of each student.
Every member of our staff understands that if he or she is not able to help a student solve his problems and overcome his difficulties, no one else will. The relationships that develop between staff and students extend far beyond the classroom or the period spent at the Center. Years after graduation, former students continue to visit and remain in contact with the staff.
